It's All About Nutrient Density



These days, my diet is all about nutrient density. Nutrient density is simply the nutrients per calorie. The more nutrient dense the foods are that you consume, the more you will be satisfied with fewer calories and the less you’ll crave low-nutrient, empty calorie foods.

Hooray! You will also keep the weight off and actually, if you are like me you will find that the weight will just fall off as a byproduct of eating this way.

How do you know which foods to choose? Which foods are nutrient dense and which are not?

Not surprisingly and a great all around tip, it is primarily the foods that come straight from nature, primarily vegetables and fruits that have the highest nutrient density. .

Nutritional science in the last twenty years has demonstrated that colorful plant foods contain a huge assortment of protective compounds. Only by eating an assortment of these nutrient-rich natural foods can we access these protective compounds and prevent many common diseases.

What does sticking to nutrient dense foods mean for me?

  • No more calorie counting

  • No more feeling hungry between meals

  • Eating delicious, satisfying foods that have anti-cancer properties

  • Reversing heart disease, diabetes, and most autoimmune diseases

  • Detoxifying my body and overcoming food cravings

  • Feeling great and enjoying increased energy

To me this is huge and it took me years to figure out. I spent a lot of time food restricting because many of the foods that I had been brought up on were high calorie/ low nutrient or in other words.. NOT nutrient dense - That meant that I was forever hungry and unsatisfied and found myself overeating easily and constantly watching the scale. To stay slim I found that I had to limit portion size which made me hungrier. An endless cycle of unhappiness.

Personally I choose to be fully plant based, you may not but by gradually adding more nutrient dense foods to your diet you will easily enjoy these benefits as well.

To me there is no other way to eat. My cholesterol is at an all time low and inflammation is kept at bay. I feel great, have lots of energy, am never bloated, or uncomfortable. Gastrointestinally, everything is working like a charm.

And so!! Here's to nutrient density.
